Service Learning Opportunities: 

Students needed to help out with the Zombie Dayz Kiddie Carnival and Haunted Tunnel on Saturday, October 28, 2017 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please see Mrs. King if you are interested.

See Mrs. Tetzner if you are interested in having a face painting station for Zombie Dayz on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

If there are any highs school students interested in tutoring middle school students for service learning hours, please see Mrs. King. Tutors are needed for all subject areas.

UW-Extension is offering an educational program for parents and they are looking for two volunteers to provide childcare during the program. The program will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Washburn Public Library. Please stop by the office if you are interested in this opportunity.

Attention Seniors: College Goal Wisconsin is hosting a financial aid event tonight at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at WITC in Ashland. At this event you will get help completing the FAFSA, receive expert advice, and learn about scholarship opportunities available to you. For more information go to www.collegegoalwi.org

The International Club will be carving pumpkins Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Spanish/French room. Bring a snack to share and your carving ideas! Please let Profe know if you plan to attend.

As part of our Veteran's Day rememberance program Washburn has a slideshow highlighting student and staff family members that have served or are serving in the military. If you have a family member that has served or is serving in the military and would like to include them on the slide show, please email Mr. Grimm a picture of the individual with the following information: Name, rank (if possible), military branch, when they served, and their relationship to you. The last day Mr. Grimm will be accepting these is Friday, November 3, 2017.

Picture Retakes: If you would like your picture retaken or missed the original picture day, retakes will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the morning.

Attention Grades 10-12: You are invited to take the ASVAB on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The ASVAB CEP is a FREE career planning resource that includes 3 components: the actual ASVAB test, an interest survey, and a catalog of careers with relevant occupational data. These components give students the confidence to map out a post-secondary plan that aligns with their individual skills and interests.  Ms. Brittanie will bring signed up students to Bayfield High School where the ASVAB is being administered. We will need to leave at 8:00 a.m. sharp, and would arrive back at WHS at approximately 12:00 p.m. All interested students need to sign up with Ms. Brittanie by Monday, November 6, 2017. 

A Fall Food Drive is beginning this week. Each class has the opportunity to win a prize. The winner will be based on whichever class, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior, has the most non-perishable goods turned in by Friday, November 17, 2017. Boxes will be placed in each class advisor's room. Thirty or more items must be collected in order for the chance to win the prize.

Road Pros Driving School, LLC is looking for students to enroll in their driver's education class. There is still time to register for the November 13th to December 6th class which will be held at the Washburn High School.  If you are interested, please contact the high school office. They need a minimum of 5 students to run the class.

The director of financial aid at UW-Superior will help parents and students understand the process for applying for financial aid, the different types of aid, how aid is awarded, and other ways to get money for post high school education. This is an excellent opportunity to get answers to your financial aid questions.

Seniors: Please see Mrs. Heglund in the office if you did not meet with the Jostens representative yesterday. Jostens will return tomorrow during the lunch period to pick up any order forms, with or without payment for caps and gowns. It is also a qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you would like to take the test, please bring a check for $15 payable to Washburn High School to Ms. Brittanie by October 6th, and she will give you a student guide for the upcoming PSAT.

Bus transportation will be provided by the school. The bus will be leaving the building at 9:30 a.m., and will be returning at approximately 12:00 p.m. Please bring money for lunch. If you would like to attend please pick up a permission slip in Ms. Brittanie's office. If you would like to attend you need to return the completed permission slip by today.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: An information meeting about financial aid is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2017 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Washburn High School Library. The director of financial aid at UW-Superior will help parents and students understand the process for applying for financial aid, the different types of aid, how aid is awarded, and other ways to get money for post high school education. This is an excellent opportunity to get answers to your financial aid questions. 

All Things Homecoming:

Homecoming week is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2017 through Friday, October 13, 2017. 

There is a song request form for Homecoming in the office. If you have music requests, put them on the list. All requests must be in by tomorrow.

Seniors who want to plan the Homecoming pep assembly need to report to Mrs.Radtke's room during Knowledge Cafe tomorrow.

The Homecoming Dance will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 in the High School Cafeteria. If you would like to bring a guest to the dance, forms are available in the high school office. All guest forms must be completed and turned into Mrs. Heglund in the high school office no later than 3:30 p.m. this Friday, October 6, 2017.

If you are currently taking a Youth Options course and it meets during the week when you also have a high school course, please speak with your teachers so that when you are attending your Youth Options course, you are not marked absent here at the high school.

The FAFSA form is free, and gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school. In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Furthermore, private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid or scholarships. All students should fill out the FAFSA form, and get it submitted. If you have any questions or need help submitting the FAFSA please see Ms. Brittanie.  

Attention Juniors: The PSAT will be given at Washburn High School on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. The PSAT is a practice SAT test that will help prepare anyone who plans to take the regular SAT. It is also a qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you would like to take the test, please bring a check for $15 payable to Washburn High School to Ms. Brittanie by October 6th, and she will give you a student guide for the upcoming PSAT.   

Attention Juniors and Seniors: You are invited to attend the Wisconsin Education Fair at Northland College in Ashland on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Education Fair is a great opportunity to talk with representatives from over 80 colleges, universities, military branches, and other institutions. Bus transportation will be provided by the school. The bus will be leaving the building at 9:30 a.m., and will be returning at approximately 12:00 p.m. Please bring money for lunch. If you would like to attend please pick up a permission slip in Ms. Brittanie's office. If you would like to attend you need to return the completed permission slip by Friday, October 6, 2017.

Picture Retakes: If you would like your picture retaken or missed the original picture day, retakes will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the morning.

Road Pros Driving School, LLC is looking for students to enroll in their driver's education class. There is still time to register for the November 13th to December 6th class which will be held at the Washburn High School.  If you are interested, please contact the high school office. They need a minimum of 5 students to run the class.

Chequamegon Driving School is looking to start a driving school class in Washburn at the public library on Monday, October 16, 2017. The class will run Monday-Friday for 3 weeks. To sign up or if you have any questions, please stop by the office. A minimum of 10 students is needed in order to run the class.

If you are interested in participating in Gymnastics, please sign up in the office as soon as possible.
