Holiday Concert

The High School/Middle School Band and Choir Holiday Concert is Tuesday, Dec. 19 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Gym. Featured will be the Middle School Bands and Choir, High School Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble, the High School Concert Choir and Concert Band. Everyone is invited to attend and there is no admission charge for the concert.

Ugly Sweater Days

Every Friday during the month of December sport your best (or worst), your sparkliest, your best adorned sweater all throughout December.  Come every Friday in your finery!

Fire & Ice Warm Winter Fundraiser

The Washburn "Fire & Ice" Show Choir is putting on a Warm Winter Fundraiser. The group is collecting slightly used or too small winter items for this fundraiser, including jackets, snowpants, hats, mittens or gloves, boots, blankets and quilts, and sweatshirts. The fundraiser will occur before and after the Middle and High School Holiday concert on December 19 as well as the Elementary Holiday Concert on December 22. Drop off items in either the High School or Elementary School office before December 15. All items will be very reasonably priced, and all proceeds will go towards the Fire & Ice show choir. Remaining items will be passed along to the Washburn Thrift Store, Leino's warm rack, and Bayfield's Encore. For questions or if you'd like to help, please stop in the office for contact information. 

Guards Coffee Castle Now Open: 

The Guards Coffee Castle located in the cafeteria is now open from 7:30am - 8:15am on school days.  They will be offering french vanilla, cappuccino, hot chocolate, mocha, sweet tea, coffee and green tea for $1.00 each, cash only.

Service Learning Opportunities:  

Volunteer Bell Ringers Needed:  The Salvation Army is looking for volunteer bell ringers from November 30th through December 24th, 9am - 7pm at the Washburn IGA.  Please sign up at the IGA service desk or stop in the office for contact information.

If there are any high school students interested in tutoring middle school students for service learning hours, please see Mrs. King. Tutors are needed for all subject areas.

ACT Prep, during Knowledge Café, will start this week and continue until the ACT test date.  Tuesday will be Reading Prep with Mr. Grimm, Wednesday will be Math Prep with Mrs. Abel, Thursday will be Science Prep with Mr. Augustyn, and Friday will be STEM Prep with Mr. Augustyn.  If you are a Junior, or a Senior retaking the ACT, you are welcome to attend, any or all of these each week.

Attention Seniors: Please check your email for a link to a document that includes a list of scholarships. This will be updated throughtout the year.

Mt. Ashwabay will once again be offering Youth Nights on Saturdays, January 6, 2018 through March 3, 2018, from 4 - 10pm.  $10.00 tickets and free rentals.  Come join us on our new night!

The International club is hosting a fundraiser for fair trade gifts from Heart of the Sky. Purchase of these lovely items from Guatemala will help the club go to the Festival of Nation and help women's weaving cooperatives in Guatemala. See Profe or a club member to look at a catalog.

Your information should be clearly printed so there is no question as to how you want your name to appear on the diploma. Please complete this form and turn it back into the High School office no later than Monday, December 11, 2017. If you are not at HELP or do not attend due to off campus classes, it is your responsibility to seek out your HELP teacher to obtain the form.

There will be a non-perishable food drive to be donated to The Brick and a toy drive to be donated to the Ashland Firefighters Toy Drive. Collection boxes will be located in the office and the copy room as well as signs posted to remind students and staff to donate.

1. Ski team practice officially began on Monday, November 27, 2017. Make sure you are officially on the roster and that you have all your paperwork done by that time.  Sign up in the High School office and check with Ms. Hawbaker on your paperwork.

2. We have had snow! It is time to think about skiing. There is a sign up in the office for the 4HCANSKI nordic ski club. Sign up if you plan to ski or would like more information. You can also talk to Profe if you have questions.

Do you enjoy working with children?  If so, St. Louis is hosting a free holiday-time babysitting afternoon on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Older students would be in charge of leading a craft area, playing with the little ones, and helping with a movie activity.  There will be adults present to help with supervision in each area.  This event will be held at St. Louis Hall.  If you are interested, please stop by the office for contact information.

Washburn Holiday Store is now accepting donations through December 8th.  The store is a place for Washburn Elementary students and local homeschooled children to shop for family members.  Each item costs $1, which gives every child the chance to experience the joy of giving.  The store relies on community donations of new and used items (no clothing please!) to provide gifts.  Collection box is available outside the Washburn Elementary School office or can be dropped off at St. Louis School on weekdays from 9am - 12pm.

Mt. Ashwabay will once again be offering Youth Nights on Saturdays, January 6, 2018 through March 3, 2018, from 4 - 10pm.  $10.00 tickets and free rentals.  Come join us on our new night!

The International club is hosting a fundraiser for fair trade gifts from Heart of the Sky. Purchase of these lovely items from Guatemala will help the club go to the Festival of Nation and help women's weaving cooperatives in Guatemala. See Profe or a club member to look at a catalog.

The Washburn "Fire & Ice" Show Choir is putting on a Warm Winter Fundraiser. The group is collecting slightly used or too small winter items for this fundraiser, including jackets, snowpants, hats, mittens or gloves, boots, blankets and quits, and sweatshirts. The fundraiser will occur before and after the Middle and High School Holiday concert on December 19 as well as the Elementary Holiday Concert on December 22. Drop off items in either the High School or Elementary School office before December 15. All items will be very reasonably priced, and all proceeds will go towards the Fire & Ice show choir. Remaining items will be passed along to the Washburn Thrift Store, Leino's warm rack, and Bayfield's Encore. The Guards Coffee Castle located in the cafeteria is now open from 7:30am - 8:15am on school days.  They will be offering french vanilla, cappuccino, hot chocolate, mocha, sweet tea, coffee and green tea for $1.00 each, cash only.

If there are any high school students interested in tutoring middle school students for service learning hours, please see Mrs. King. Tutors are needed for all subject areas. 

Do you enjoy working with children?  If so, St. Louis is hosting a free holiday-time babysitting afternoon on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Older students would be in charge of leading a craft area, playing with the little ones, and helping with a movie activity.  There will be adults present to help with supervision in each area.  This event will be held at St. Louis Hall.  If you are interested, please stop by the office for contact information.

All things Skiing:

1. Ski team practice officially began on Monday, November 27, 2017. Make sure you are officially on the roster and that you have all your paperwork done by that time.  Sign up in the High School office and check with Ms. Hawbaker on your paperwork.

 2. We have had snow! It is time to think about skiing. There is a sign up in the office for the 4HCANSKI nordic ski club. Sign up if you plan to ski or would like more information. You can also talk to Profe if you have questions.

ACT Prep, during Knowledge Café, will start this week and continue until the ACT test date.  Tuesday will be Reading Prep with Mr. Grimm, Wednesday will be Math Prep with Mrs. Abel, Thursday will be Science Prep with Mr. Augustyn, and Friday will be STEM Prep with Mr. Augustyn.  If you are a Junior, or a Senior retaking the ACT, you are welcome to attend, any or all of these each week.

If you are not at HELP or do not attend due to off campus classes, it is your responsibility to seek out your HELP teacher to obtain the form.

Washburn High School will be participating in the Wisconsin MAA HS Math Contest on Thursday, Dec 7th.  It is a 75 minute contest that is open to any student that has completed at least one year of Algebra and are at least in their first semester of Geometry.  All students that meet these criteria and are interested in participating please email or sign up with Mrs. Abel by Tuesday, Dec. 5th.  The contest will be at 8:30am in Mrs. Abel's room on Thursday, Dec. 7th.

There will be an AFS International Club meeting next Tuesday, Dec. 5th during Knowledge Cafe in Profe's room. Avia Merton will do a presentation about her experience as an AFS student in France. Our regular meeting will now be on the first and third Tuesday of each month so mark your calendars!
