Last week we celebrate the accomplishments of, Olivia Hickman, who recently received a full-ride scholarship to Mt. Mary University in Milwaukee.  It was no easy task to receive this scholarship.  Not only did Olivia have to get good grades and keep a high GPA in high school, she had to go through a very rigorous process after being accepted to Mt. Mary to gain this scholarship.

First, she had to be invited to apply for this scholarship.  Only 50 people are asked to apply and Olivia was one of them.  Once selected, she had to create a resume that highlighted her volunteer experience and her extra-curricular involvement.  She also had to write two essays, which she then submitted to Mt. Mary.

After reviewing the resume and essays 10 finalist are selected to be invited to interview.  The interview was in front of a panel of 5 women and she had to answer questions and also write an impromptu essay.  She did not have preparation time before writing it.  The topic was to write about an influential teacher in her life.

When she was finished they told her that she would find out in 2 weeks if she was selected.  It was only a matter of 5 days when they called to offer her the scholarship.

The scholarship includes a full ride for 4 years of college, including room and board.  Olivia will have to maintain a 3.0 GPA and will be asked to complete 350 volunteer hours in the area of social justice during her time at Mt. Mary.  Olivia will be completing a double major in International Studies and Spanish during her time at Mt. Mary University.

We are so proud of Olivia and wish her all the best at Mt. Mary and into the future.
